Children in orphanages around Johannesburg might not get two turtledoves or a partridge in a pear tree for Christmas, but they did receive a lunch pack and enjoyed a day filled with entertainment.
To bring joy and love to orphaned AIDS\HIV children in Johannesburg, Fedics joined KayaFM for their 12 days of Christmas and feed over 2 000 children aged between six and 18 years.
With Christmas being a time of year that most children look forward to, these orphans are not as lucky. To brighten their Christmas each orphanage experienced a fun day with with story book characters and heroes, face painting, slides, jumping castles, carnival games, clowns, a mechanical bull, a movie screening and the highlight of the day will be Santa handing out treats.
Martin Kobald, National Executive Chef at Fedics, explains being able to assist these children is particularly satisfying. “With Fedics dishing up over a million meals a day, serving this lunch was a gratifying experience. Being able to put smiles on these children’s faces and give them a day when they can just play and be children with no adult worries, is so rewarding.”
Orphanages being assisted include Abraham Kriel, the Roly Poly Crèche, Nkosi’s Haven, Abangani Nkosini, Westbury Community Pre-school, Ennerdale, two Takalani Children’s Homes, Orlando Children’s Home, Cotlands, Kids Haven and Sparrows Haven.
The 12 days started on the 14 November and ended on the 1 December. Johannesburg Country Club, a Fedics contract, prepared the lunch packs.
